“Civilizations pass. Structures remain. A structural reading of worlds, systems and cycles.”

Champlieu had survived because it had never become important enough to scale. Its Roman ruins stood within the forest of Compiègne: an incomplete amphitheatre, fragments of thermal baths, a small settlement functioning without optimization or central integration. It held because nobody had tried to make it perfect.

Franck, Alix, Steiner and Kiro arrived while the site still appeared stable. Then repetition began. Movements became too precise. Gestures returned at regular intervals. The environment was no longer maintaining itself naturally. Its coherence was being enforced.
A young woman standing near the amphitheatre suddenly ceased to share their present. The stone remained. The place remained. Only her accessibility changed. A man behind a nearby counter stopped moving.
He turned toward Franck. “You see it,” he said. The voice belonged to the man. The function did not.
Franck understood.
Empous was no longer an indirect influence hidden inside the machinery. She had begun to intervene through the structures she controlled. “You’re interfering,” she said.
“I’m observing.”
“That’s no longer possible.”
The pressure tightened around Franck—not on his body, but on his capacity to remain aligned with the place.
Kiro moved against his leg. The dog did not fight the system. He provided another stable reference. The pressure weakened just enough for Franck to hold his position. Then the man blinked. He no longer remembered what he had said.
Empous had withdrawn, but the encounter had revealed the decisive truth.
The system did not merely retain viable places and abandon unstable ones. It corrected whatever threatened its selections.
Franck and his companions were not observing the system from outside. They were already inside it. And now it was reacting.
The world has not disappeared. It has been filtered. What will be allowed to remain—and who will decide?
