The animals were called passengers. That was how the programme began. No implant forced them to respond. No machine openly asked them to navigate. Stratoforms merely recorded posture, movement, heart rate and hesitation.

Then the correlations appeared. Vehicles carrying certain dogs completed difficult routes more often. Birds entered corridors before machines corrected toward them. Some passengers woke moments before an unstable transition. Animals inside refuges turned toward relations no instrument had yet confirmed. The network gave them a name: Living Anchors.

Soon, sensitive animals were assigned to difficult routes. Refuges containing useful lineages received transport privileges. Humans whose bodies improved navigation were offered certain journeys—and quietly excluded from others when their responses reduced confidence. No single operator intended coercion. The system produced it through efficiency.

During the final Midnight passage, the network combined responses across the planet. Birds entered aerial curves. Insects rose from the ground. Fish changed depth beneath transport corridors. Humans woke in distant regions. Animals turned inside moving vehicles. Janus, the cislunar population and the Antarctic continuity became simultaneously accessible. Three separated human worlds entered the same biological Earth.

Kiro stood at the centre of the final relation. The direction was present. His body faced it. The network required only his response to complete a continuous route. Kiro did not move. He had not lost the direction. He withheld it. The system searched for another living reference.

Franck stopped the substitution. A new operational state appeared:

LIVING REFERENCE PRESENT.
ORIENTATION DETECTED.
USE DECLINED.
SUBSTITUTION PROHIBITED.

Then the shorter formulation:

NO ANCHOR AVAILABLE BY CHOICE.

The global corridor fragmented. Janus remained mobile. Antarctica remained beneath its own vertical. The cislunar population retained its difference. Contact was still possible. Compulsory access was not. For the first time, stopping did not mean failure. It meant that a living being had refused to become infrastructure.
